Today’s blog post is about crocheted dish towels. The crocheted dish towels are a good gift idea to use together with these dish cloths. This is a nice idea for a housewarming gift, bridal shower, or birthday gift. I made these as a gift for my mom and they match perfectly with the other colors in her kitchen.

This simple pattern uses single crochet and double crochet stitches, similar to the dish cloths. It is a great beginner crocheting project. I like using Lily’s cotton yarn, but any brand of cotton yarn will work. You’ll need one skein for the base of the towel and one skein for the top and edges. Michael’s crafts often has good sales on yarn; be sure to check this out.

Materials needed:

  • Two skeins cotton yarn – I prefer different coordinating colors
  • Size I crochet hook
  • Button and thread
  • Scissors

Key:
Ch = chain
SC = single crochet stitch
DC = double crochet stitch
SC2TOG = single crochet together

To Make Crocheted Dish Towels:

1. With the first color (base of the towel), chain 41. Turn and SC in the second chain from the hook. SC across.

2. Ch 1, turn, DC across
3. Ch 1, turn, SC across
4. Repeat steps 2-3 until you have 23 rows completed. You can add more rows to make your towel wider if you would like.
5. Change to the second color if you are using this. Chain 1, turn, then SC down the side of the towel. Preferably 26 stitches.
6. Ch1, turn, SC, SC2TOG – keep repeating until you get to the end.
7. Ch1, turn. Repeat step 6 until you have 3 stitches in the middle.
8. Ch 1, turn. SC three times x 14 rows.

9. Lastly, SC surrounding the entirety of the project. Cut, tie off, and weave in the tail.

I like to add a button to the top so that it can hook onto a kitchen handle.

And there you have it! A new crocheted dish cloth.

Hope you enjoyed this project.
